Wood Lane Underground Station

All fans of the original series are aware that the original Lab was located in a disused station of the London Underground. In the first serial, The Slaves of Jedekiah, we were able to see some images of this station. Wood Lane Station. The station used for these shots was Wood Lane, which shut down in 1947. The remnants of Wood Lane station have been scheduled for demolition for a number of years, and may have occurred by now. It was still intact in May 2003.

I found some photographs of the station taken in more recent years, during a search of the internet. Sections of some of those images here appear courtesy of the owner of that website Nick Catford. The original images may be found at http://www.knightvp.fsnet.co.uk/wood_lane_thumbnail_gall.htm, and there is a brief history of the station at http://www.swanley1.freeserve.co.uk/transport/wood_lane_underground_station.htm.

In the 1964 Doctor Who serial The Dalek Invasion of Earth, set sometime in the second half of the late 22nd Century, the human resistance in London hides out in hidden tunnels on an abandoned underground station. Again, it is Wood Lane station. While The Tomorrow People and Doctor Who do not take place in the same universe, this has allowed for some fun speculation - what if these survivors are using the secret area built by Tomorrow People two hundred years earlier.
